Kina Bank’s new major community partnership
This year, Kina Bank partners with Kokoda Track Foundation and Motu Koita Assembly to co-fund the establishment of the Motu Koita Flexible Open Distance Education (FODE) centre. This community initiative will provide a second chance education pathway to grade 10 and 12 students who missed opportunities for further studies. It anchors Kina Bank’s commitment to youth development efforts in the communities which we work in.
The partnership is one of the most significant partnerships for the bank, to date. Officially opened on Monday 27 April by National Capital District Governor, Hon. Powes Parkop, Deputy Governor and Motu Koita Chairman, Dadi Toka Jnr, the new centre will roll-out the nationally accredited FODE program. Students who enroll will be able to upgrade their high school qualifications to meet current minimum requirements for colleges.
Kina Bank’s GM Corporate Affairs, Gavin Heard said: “We’re delighted to partner with the Kokoda Track Foundation to co-fund the new FODE centre. We’re committed to supporting our local communities. Access to education is a pressing social and economic issue that we’re facing and through our partnership we can help tackle this. Students with a good education can unlock meaningful careers. This is key to the future of our communities. Some of the students have already expressed their interest to go on to become teachers or health workers. It’s extremely positive. The Kokoda Track Foundation are a fantastic organisation to partner with and our commitment to the FODE centre is a crucial part of our strategy to help create the workforce of the future.”
The centre will be managed by the foundation who are on schedule to commence classes for the first intake of 105 students in May. The students will be utilising tablet technology to download their lessons, supporting them to work and study flexibly from home.
KTF’s General Manager (PNG), Anthony Nagul, said: “We are excited to foster this new partnership with Kina Bank. It is great to partner with Kina Bank who share KTF’s vision of tangibly investing in the future leaders of PNG. The Motu Koita FODE Centre aims to set students on the path to become teachers and health workers where they can make meaningful contributions in their communities. In recent years, KTF has ramped up its efforts in e-learning to ensure students attain the highest level of academic success. KTF is confident that the Motu Koita FODE Centre will tell many success stories in the near future. Without incredible partners like Kina Bank, Motu Koita Assembly and Black Swan International, KTF would not be able to bring high quality FODE learning to the Motu Koita people.”
