Kina Bank has reaffirmed its commitment to inclusive education in Papua New Guinea, celebrating the graduation of Motu Koita students who completed their secondary studies through the Kokoda Track Foundation (KTF) Flexible Open Distance Education (FODE) program.

A total of 180 students from Hanuabada, Pari, Taurama and surrounding Motu Koita communities graduated at a ceremony, marking the completion of Grades 9 to 12 and a significant milestone for second‑chance education pathways in the National Capital District.

Since 2020, Kina Bank has supported the Motu Koita FODE program, enabling it to expand each year and reach more learners who were previously unable to continue through the formal education system.

Representing Kina Bank at the graduation, Chief of Staff Mr Mackhenly Kaiok highlighted the personal and community significance of the program, noting that he lives near a Motu Koita village and understands first‑hand the barriers many young people face.

“Education is one of the most powerful investments we can make in our communities. Supporting programs like Motu Koita FODE means creating real opportunities for young people to build better futures for themselves and their families,” Mr Kaiok said.

KTF Chief Executive Officer Dr Genevieve Nelson said the success of the program reflects a shared belief that education should remain accessible at any stage of life.

“Second chance education doesn’t happen by chance. It exists because people believe that opportunity should never expire. FODE stands on the belief that education always leaves a door open and every graduate here today has had the courage to walk back through it.,” she said.

The Motu Koita FODE program is delivered through strong partnerships between KTF, Kina Bank, the Motu Koita Assembly, and other supporters, providing a pathway for students who missed out on mainstream schooling due to limited places, financial hardship, or family circumstances.

Kina Bank remains committed to supporting initiatives that drive long‑term social and economic development, with education continuing to be a cornerstone of the Bank’s community engagement strategy.
