The Koupuana Elementary school, Kairuku District in Central province received 24 desks and chairs under Kina Bank’s Strongim Komuniti Grant program (SKG).

The SKG program, an initiative by Kina Bank aligns with the bank’s sustainability and community support priorities. It is exclusively available to Kina Bank staff, who apply for grants each quarter to implement small community projects.

Kina Bank Fund Accountant, Natasha Kove successfully applied for the grant and delivered the items to her community school, witnessed by parents, teachers and community members.

“This is our community school, where children still sit on the classroom floor. With very limited funding, desks and chairs are simply beyond our school’s budget. I’m deeply grateful for this program that allows us to give back to our communities. I have witnessed the impact these initiatives have had on so many communities, and I’m thankful I had the opportunity to do the same for the school in my village,” she said.

Koupuana Elementary School is located inland in Kairuku and serves a student population of about 208 from kindergarten to grade 2.

Head Teacher of Koupuana, Mr. Miauru Aukere received the donation on behalf of the school.

“I want to thank you Kina Bank for coming all the way to our village. Today is a momentous occasion as the delivery of these desks and chairs coincides with the opening of our new classroom building as we work towards attaining our Primary school status in 2026. This is already a great start to our goals and vision for the school,” he said.

The SKG program has supported various community projects in PNG since its inception in 2023. Notable projects include providing water tanks to community schools, reading and learning materials to schools, medical supplies to rural communities, school furniture, and solar power installations at health facilities.
