Stronger-than-expected service-sector ISM index was not enough to balance disappointing private-sector job gains and a dip in productivity. The Dow Jones Industrial Average DJIA, -0.56% fell 99.65 points, or 0.56%, to 17,651.26 points. The Japanese stock market as closed today in observance of Children’s Day. Meanwhile, The Australian share market has edged higher as National Australia Bank’s half-year earnings report met expectations and supported the banking sector. At the close on Thursday, the benchmark S&P/ASX200 index was up 8 points, or 0.15% at 5,279.10 points.
