Japan’s Nikkei share average dropped to a three-week low on Friday as investors took profits from the recent gains on the last trading day of 2016. The Nikkei was down 96.76 points or 0.51% to 19,048.38 points. The Australian stock market closed modestly lower following modest losses overnight on Wall Street and in the absence of any fresh significant cues. The benchmark S&P/ASX 200 declined 22.80 points or 0.40% to 5,676.30 points.
